I can’t say enough good things about First Degree Jiu-Jitsu and Coach Scott Cook. Scott is an exceptional instructor - highly knowledgeable in Jiu-Jitsu and practical self-defense, an excellent communicator and a truly dedicated and decorated practitioner. His passion for the art shows in every class.
As a husband and dad, I wanted to get back into shape for my family. Training under Scott has not only transformed my physical fitness - I honestly feel like I’m back in my prime - but it has also strengthened me mentally. Jiu-Jitsu pushes you to grow through challenges, and Scott creates an environment that builds confidence, resilience, and real-world self-defense skills.
As a healthcare professional and business owner, the improved fitness and discipline I’ve gained on the mats have translated directly into more energy, focus, and leadership at work. I’m better able to serve my patients and my team because of the growth I’ve experienced here.
If you’re considering starting Jiu-Jitsu, I highly recommend First Degree Jiu-Jitsu and Coach Scott Cook. It’s one of the best investments I’ve made in myself and my family.
I started Jiu-Jitsu thinking it would just be a stress relief outlet, but it’s become so much more than that. I’ve gained confidence, discipline, and learning how to regulate my nervous system under pressure. The environment at First Degree Jiu-Jitsu pushes you to grow mentally and physically while still feeling supported. I’m grateful to be part of it.
62yo blue belt, I am attending to Mr Scott's classes for 8+ years, I am so glad to see these classes becoming official Academy!
If you are an elder guy, give it a try, there are folks with gray hair on the mats, you won't regret it.
I have trained Jiu-Jitsu with Scott and the SAS organization through Dustin Ware at Ohio Combat Sports Academy for 12 yrs now. Scott is a multiple time world champion and unselfishly loves giving back to the community what Jiu-Jitsu has given to him.
He has provided open mat and fitness training for like minded folks getting started or just wanting to train more together for almost 10 yrs before evening opening a school. The atmosphere is family friendly with ages ranging anywhere from 5 to 70 yrs old. Everyone is welcoming and humble putting team and safety first. For anyone looking to get started, I highly recommend training at First Degree.
I’ve been training with Scott and this group of instructors for the past three years, and the experience has been nothing short of outstanding. The level of Jiu-Jitsu taught here is both practical and high-level, but what truly sets this team apart is the culture they’ve built. The coaches bring an incredible amount of discipline, knowledge, and genuine dedication to helping every student improve and reach their personal goals. There’s absolutely no ego, just a welcoming and supportive environment where everyone pushes each other to get better.
The coaching staff is exceptional, and the atmosphere they’ve created makes it easy to stay consistent and continue growing both on and off the mats. I’m excited to see this new school open and know it’s going to be an incredible place for anyone looking to learn authentic Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu.
I have been training with the crew at First Degree Jiu-Jitsu for upwards of seven years now. I still remember my first lesson and knew I was completely hooked from the beginning. You cannot ask for a higher level of instruction, care, safety and camaraderie from a martial arts academy.
Scott and the the team are kind and really help push you to a higher level while maintaining a nurturing environment. Their motto of "1% better everyday" isn't just a good line, it's a lifestyle for them.
As a mom I want to put my kids into the right activities from the get-go. We tried so many things for our kids. Wasted lots of time and money. Now we found good one which I would like to share.
At first, I was like lots of moms asking what is Jiu-Jitsu. I love to share with everyone this powerful and world's fasted growing martial art with so much benefit for both kids and adults. There is no age limit. Our teenager had depression. We put her in. Fixed. Younger girl started when she was five years old. Built so much confidence!
Both kids interact with other kids and made new friends as well. For adults, if you want to be healthier or struggle to loss weight, this is the right one. Plus, it's a great family bonding activity too. Overall Jiu-Jitsu is great for mental and physical health. You will make great friends during the fun classes.
If you live in Dublin or surrounding area come to check out this place. The owner is well respected person in daily life and the Jiu-Jitsu world. You won’t go wrong!
